"The Clever Cleaver Brothers Tailgatin'" -- a new DVD barbecue guide with recipes that even a rookie chef can tackle. The Clever Cleaver Brothers are Lee N. Gerovitz and Steve Cassarino ? professional chefs who turned their love for food and laughter into a unique career as television personalities, cookbook authors, magazine columnists for "Barbecue & Beverage," and, as one pundit called them, "the Abbott and Costello of a la carte."According to TV"s zaniest celebrity chefs, forget the fancy-shmancy pans and kitchen tools. With just a grill, a lawn chair and good friends, you'll be the celebrity of the tailgate party. Released by American Home Treasures, a division of BFS Entertainment & Multimedia Limited, this 80-plus minute DVD features tasty recipes to help you get off the sidelines and turn the next big game into the tailgating party of champions. With interactive menus and scene selection, the DVD features not only tailgate recipes, but also grilling health and safety tips, classic desserts and a profile on these "stand-up" chefs. Now available in stores and from Internet retailers, the DVD has a suggested retail price of $14.98.Regis Philbin says, "The Clever Cleaver Brothers aren't just clever. They're funny and can cook, too." Leeza Gibbons notes, "Anything these guys do promises to be fun." And "Emmy Magazine" adds, "They're what you might get if Martin and Lewis graduated from The Cordon Bleu." Graduates of Johnson & Wales College of Culinary Arts, Lee and Steve followed diverse paths after graduation.
Steve studied under master chefs in London and Paris. His career took him from assignments as head chef on a Monte Carlo yacht to executive chef of the Melbourne Hotel in Brisbane, Australia. Lee pursued a corporate culinary career as a chef at Nashville's Opryland Hotel, an instructor for the National Restaurant Association and national menu development manager for the Jack-In-The-Box restaurant chain. Several years later, after their paths crossed unexpectedly while jogging on the beach in San Diego, they decided to produce a video cookbook for beginners. Despite a lack of on-camera experience, their video was an overnight success ? generating not only publicity and sales, but also their own local television series.Today, these culinary cut-ups have become regulars on the TV guest circuit with appearances on "The Tonight Show starring Jay Leno," "Live! with Regis," "Fox & Friends," "Entertainment Tonight" and many other shows.
Their syndicated TV cooking vignettes "Tailgatin' with The Clever Cleaver Brothers" are seen nationally by more than 1.3 million viewers per week. Lee and Steve also take their cooking show on the road for live appearances at casinos, corporate events, fairs, festivals and theatres. Recent appearances have included such diverse venues as the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino in Las Vegas, the Sheboygan, Wisc., Bratwurst Festival and the Eastern States Exposition, the New England states fair in West Springfield, Mass.More information on The Clever Cleaver Brothers is available on their official website www.clevercleaver.com..
