WARNING! eBay Security Risk - Your eBay ID could be stolen WHILE ON EBAY!
Each day millions of people search eBay for a great bargain or any of the millions of items for sale.
Most don't realize that that it is VERY easy for them to have their eBay ID information stolen while on eBay.
I have been selling products on eBay for over six years and also helped tens of thousands of others start and grow their eBay business.
Now, this article is neither about how you can make money through eBay nor about any tips about how to sell more through eBay.
The purpose of this article is to alert eBay buyers and sellers specifically about a major security risk that I discovered and how to make sure you don't fall victim!
It is a phishing scam.
This is when someone displays a fake copy of a form and tries to get you to fill it out with your ID and password.
The scam artist will then be able to access your account. Usually they will then list bogus product for sale at great prices.
Once someone "wins" the item, they will try to get them to send a check or money order to a different address, or to quickly Paypal the payment to a different account.
Since the buyer thinks he is dealing with a legitimate eBay seller they often follow the instructions.
The thief simply keeps the money and it may be a week or so before the victim even knows they have been ripped off.
By then it's often too late.
** THE DANGER **
I came across this while helping a client research why the DVDs he had listed on eBay weren't getting great bids.
When I clicked on a link to view a different DVD the page redirected to what looked like the standard eBay login screen.
But it wasn't!
When I looked that the URL (the web address) I saw that it was coming from a site that was not eBay!
Ack! That's a very scary thing.
My jaw hit the floor when I saw this dangerous eBay security risk.
At first I could not believe that such a security risk could exist on eBay.
It seems that it IS POSSIBLE for some HTML auction ads which redirect to an outside web site to show up on eBay.
Even if eBay traps 99.9% of these attempts, it only takes one to find a victim.
This is especially scary since logging in to eBay is something we all do many times, and don't often think twice about.
A little carelessness could cost you getting your account infomation stolen.
Plus.. if you use the same password for your Paypal account as your eBay account, chances are the hackers would gain access to that too.
In fact when I sent this warning to everyone who subscribes to my eBay selling newsletter I heard from a surprising number of victims who HAVE had their eBay IDs stolen.

Now the point of this warning is NOT to tell you it is dangerous to buy or sell on eBay.
No, rather it is just to warn you to be careful.
You can't assume that eBay will immediately detect and prevent 100% of the phishing attempts.
Train yourself to always look at the URL (the web address) before entering login info.
Not just for eBay but any website requiring you to enter such info.
eBay is a great place to buy (and even a greater place to make money!)
So just be careful to check before entering any secure information and you can still enjoy the experience.
